Your voices are needed to help us encourage your Senators and Congressmen to co-sponsor The Safe Freight Act
 
Brothers and Sisters:
 
We urge that you call your Senators and Congressman to co-sponsor The Safe Freight Act which would mandates that all freight trains have at least two-persons on the train, a certified locomotive engineer and a certified conductor.  Bill S. 1979 (Sponsored by Senator Ed Markey (D– MA), along with the House version H.R. 1748 (Sponsored by Don Young (R–AK)).
 
You may not actually talk with your Senator or Congressman, so ask for the staff member that handles Labor or Trade issues and please be respectful to them, just as you would if speaking with your representative personally.  We also encourage supportive family members and friends to also get involved!  If you are unsure how to express your support of this legislation when on the call, an example of sample language for you to use is as follows:
 
 
 When Calling the Senate (S. 1979):
 
“Hello, my name is _________.  I am a locomotive engineer living in your state.  I would like the Senator to co-sponsor The Safe Freight Act, S. 1979.  Safe freight rail operations depend upon two certified crew members to ensure the safety of train movements and responses to emergencies when they occur.”    When Calling the House (H.R. 1748):
 
“Hello, my name is _________.  I am a locomotive engineer living in the _____ Congressional District.  I would like the Representative to co-sponsor The Safe Freight Act, H.R. 1748.  Safe freight rail operations depend upon two certified crew members to ensure the safety of train movements and responses to emergencies when they occur.”
